La Library Of  Congress (la Biblioteca del Congresso americana) si occupa di stilare la National Recording Registry, una lista di registrazioni audio fondamentali per la cultura dell’umanità e per la storia americana. In questo 2017 sono stati aggiunti 25 album, facendo arrivare il “Registro” a 475 registrazioni da tramandare ai posteri.

La responsabile della Library Of Congress Carla Hayden ha dichiarato che la lista di quest’anno offre una serie di esperienze sonore diverse, sottolineando che le registrazioni selezionate arricchiscono la comprensione della storia in generale.

I dischi più noti nell’ambiente mainstream sono sicuramente “Remain in Light” dei Talking Heads, “Straight outta Compton” degli N.W.A. e “Their Greatest Hits” degli Eagles.

Ma l’album più atteso ed importante della selezione è senza dubbio “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” di David Bowie, a proposito del quale la Hayden ha commentato così: “L’album rientra perfettamente nel genere glam-rock del tempo, ma incorpora influenze soul, blues, cabaret, garage rock, proto-punk e la chitarra rock da stadio.” Si tratta infatti dell’ennesimo riconoscimento per il leggendario artista scomparso il 10 gennaio 2017 e per quello che viene considerato uno dei suoi capolavori. Ziggy Stardust, l’alter ego di Bowie, è diventato fonte di ispirazione per le generazioni future e simbolo dell’artista britannico nell’immaginario collettivo.
