Nella puntata di X Factor che andrà in onda stasera, Giovedì 2 Dicembre, ci sarà modo di vedere i concorrenti del popolare programma televisivo esibirsi con cover di alcune delle canzoni che hanno cambiato e scritto la storia della musica. Tra di queste, non si può non segnare anche Dog Days Are Over del gruppo musicale britannico Florence + The Machine, che è stata affidata a Fellow, membro della squadra di Mika.

Il brano è il secondo estratto dall’album in studio di debutto Lungs e pubblicato il 1º dicembre 2008. Il singolo raggiunse la Top 30 in Canada, Irlanda, Regno Unito, Stati Uniti e in Italia raggiunse un grande successo nel 2010. Il brano presenta una sonorità molto vocale ed accompagnata da strumenti come arpe, pianoforte e tamburi.

Florence Welch, “frontwoman” della band è stata ispirata a scrivere la canzone dopo aver visto qualcosa di piuttosto speciale mentre si recava nel centro di Londra ogni giorno. Welch aveva notato un’opera dell’artista svizzero Ugo Rondinone: le parole Dog Days Are Over, scritte in grandi lettere color arcobaleno sul lato della Hayward Gallery di South Bank.

Florence disse in un’intervista a MOJO, una rivista musicale: “È stato intonacato sulla South Bank di Londra per sei mesi e ci sono passato davanti in bicicletta ogni giorno”. Continuò: “È un riferimento alla stella del cane, Sirius. Quando era più vicina alla Terra, tutti gli animali diventavano languidi e assonnati. Quando si allontanava, si svegliavano.”
